YahurVed Patha at Gunadhara
I was aware of the YajurVed and Hom rituals in a historical sense, but getting the chance to experience it first-hand was something special. We hosted this event on May 17, 2025, at our home in Gunadhara, Kavre, fulfilling my Buwa's dream. He managed to gather the Kunwar family from Chaubas, Okhre, Pokhari, Thulo Khoriya, Kodka, & Kavre - over 60 of us gathered together.
Now, I'm a student of culture & tourism, not so much of the Karm-Kanda, so while I understand the philosophy, the rituals themselves were new to me. It was exciting to learn about the Rudri, Yajurved verse & Hom in real-time.
My Buwa's efforts to unite our Watsa Gotri Kunwar family from the region paid off. It was like a family reunion on a spiritual level with the added richness of inviting five priests - four from Sindhupalchok and one who regularly blesses our Puja.
For our family, this wasn't just a gathering. It was a chance to explore our roots. My Buwa, [ From my Hajurbuwa, Jijubuwa (1981- 2067 BS), and during my tenure as a field supervisor for the census in 2021 A.D. I listened a lot of stories of Kunwar of this area & my family, and our generation to generations. I visited everyone household wow what a memory for me! ] meticulously collected names and stories of our family going back to Devraj Kunwar, who reportedly came to our current home area around 1905/06 B.S. or before, possibly to escape the conflicts under Jang Bahadur Kunwar Rana (Prime Minister of Nepal). We've inherited tales of survival and devotion, tales that brought us together this time not out of need but out of tradition and cultural pride.
This event taught me so much more than cultural history; it brought the past into present, threading together stories, people, and traditions that define us as a family, a community, and a part of something much larger. Finally, family isn’t just about people - it’s about stories, memories, and traditions.
