Tea time & Storytelling with the Honorable Minister of MoCTCA

29 May 2025 Morning 08:50 to 09:20 at Basantapur Durbar Square 🇳🇵, On the occasion of 72th International Sagarmatha Day.

After the event ended, the Honourable Minister expressed his wish to enjoy a cup of tea. So, he and his team headed to the famous youth hangout, Mama's Tea Point at Basantapur. He was joined by the Joint Secretary of MoCTCA, along with representatives from NTB, NMA, TAAN, NTTA, NATHM’s ED Ma’am, and a few tourism entrepreneurs -including me. (Luckily, we happened to be there!)

Theme: Tea & Storytelling with the Honourable Minister of MoCTCA, Mr. Badri Prasad Panday, and storyteller Sunil Sharma Sir (Officiating Director of NTB) 🇳🇵

This moment was more than just tea and talk - it reflected a paradigm shift in Nepal’s tourism approach. Instead of the usual focus on the Himalayas and Lumbini, the Honourable Minister took interest in local stories, especially the history of Freak Street, once a famous hub for Hippies in the 1960s and 70s. He explored how the social life, culture, and early tourism lifestyle shaped Kathmandu.

This kind of leadership and storytelling from our tourism authority is inspiring. When tourism bodies connect with the roots and stories of our own streets, Nepal’s tourism truly begins to evolve and modernize. Finally it turned into a warm, casual moment of connection over tea — simple but memorable and tourism is going on new dimensions.
