गणेश चालिसा


जय जय जय गणपति गणराजू
मंगल भरण करण शुभ काजू
जै गजबदन सदन सुखदाता
विश्व विनायक बुद्धि विधाता।।

वक्र तुण्ड शुचि शुण्ड सुहावन
तिलक त्रिपुण्ड भाल मन भावन
राजत मणि मुक्तन उर माला
स्वर्ण मुकुट शिर नयन विशाल।।

पुस्तक पाणि कुठार त्रिशुलं
मौदक भोग सुगन्धित फूल,
सुन्दर पीताम्बर तन साजित
चरण पादुका मुनि मन राजित।।

धनि शिवसुवन षडानन भ्राता
गौरी ललन विश्वविख्याता
ऋद्धिसिद्ध तव चंवर सुधारे 
मूषक वाहन सोहन द्धारे।।

कहौ जन्म शुभकथा तुम्हारी
अति शुचि पावन मंगलकारी,
एक समय गिरिराज कुमारी
पुत्र हेतु तप कीन्हो भारी।।

भयो यज्ञ जब पूर्ण अनूपा
तब पहुंच्यो तुप धरि द्बिज रुपा 
अतिथि जानि कै गौरी सुखारी
बहुविधि सेवा करी तुम्हारी।।

अति प्रसन्न है तुम वर दीन्हा
मातु पुत्र हित जो तप कीन्हा
मिलहि पुत्र तुहि, बुद्धि विशाला
बिना गर्भ धारण, यहि काला।।

गणनायक, गण ज्ञान निधाना
पूजित प्रथम, रुप भगवना
अस कहि अन्तरध्यान रुप है
पलना पर बालक स्वरूप है।।

बनि शिशु, रुदन जबहिं तुम ठाना
लखि मुख सुख नहिं गौरि समाना
सकल मगन, सुखमंगल गावहिं
नभ सुरन, सुमन वर्षावहिं।।

शम्भु, उमा, बहु दान लुटावहिं
सुर मुनिजन, सुत देखन आवहिं,
लखि अति आनन्द मंगल साजा
देखन भी आये शनि राजा।।

निज अवगुण गुनि शनि मन माहीं
बालक, देखन चाहत नाहीं,
गिरिजा कछु मन भेद बढायो
उत्सव मोर, न शनि तुहि भायो।।

कहन लगे शनि, मन सकुचाई
का करिहौ, शिशु मोहि दिखाई
नहिं विश्वास, उमा उर भयऊ
शनि सों बालक देखन कहिऊ।।

पडतहिं, शनि द्दग कोण प्रकाशा
बालक सिर उडि गयो आकाश
गिरिजा गिरीं विकल्प है धरणी
सो दुख दशा गयो नहीं वरणी।।

हाहाकार मच्यो कैलाशा शनि
कीन्हो लखि सुत को नाशा
तुरत गरुड चढि बिष्णु सिधाये
काटि चक्र सो गज शिर लाये।।

बालक के धड् ऊपर धारयो
प्राण मंत्र पढि शंकर डारयो
नाम गणेश  शम्भु तब कीन्हे
प्रथम पूज्य बुद्धि निधि, वर दीन्हे।।

बुद्धि परीक्षा जब शिव कीन्हा
पृथ्वी की प्रदक्षिणा लीन्हा
चले षडानन, भरमि भुलाई
रचे बैठ तुम बुद्धि उपाई।।

चरण मातुपितु के धर लीन्हे
तिनके सात प्रदक्षिणा कीन्हें
धनी गणेश कहि शिव हिय हर्षे
नभ ते सुरत सुमन बहु वर्षे।।

तुम्हरी महिमा बुद्धि बडाई
शेष सहसमुख सके न गाई 
मैं मतिहीन मलिन दुखारी 
करहुं कौन विधि विनय तुम्हारी।।

भजत रामसुन्दर प्रभुदासा
लख प्रयाग, ककरा, दर्वासा
अब प्रभु दया दीन पर कीजै

Teej Festival

    Teejparva (Teej festival) is a seasonal festival. Celebrated on the third day of Shuklapaksh in the month of  Bhadau (Aug/Sep), this festival is awakening and organizing all Hindu sisters. On the special day of this festival, the second date (i.e. eating all together means balanced meal), the third date and the fifth date are important. This festival also welcomes the rainy season, welcomes greenery, grains, fruits, etc., and indicates the abundance of fruits, cow's milk, yoghurt and ghee. The connection of Teejparva, the birth of Krishna and Nawaran (name ceremony) as well as the fasting stories of Krishnalila and Parvati for Mahadev to get a husband are connected.

Krishna & Teej 
In the case of Lord Krishna, according to the Mahabharata story, the uncle Kansa and nephew Krishna. Kansa's sisters-in-law are Devaki and Vasudev. Motherhood seems to have prevailed at that time as Devaki's son was likely to become king. Therefore, when Kansa went to take his sister-in-law home to Devaki, at the time thinking that if Devaki had a son, he would lose his power. Kansa returned the chariot to his Mathura palace and kept Vasudev and Devaki captive. All the children born in Mathura were killed by Kansa for this purpose. 

It is customary to consider Krishna Janmashtami as the first day of fasting and to invite daughters and sisters to eat on this day. On the 11th day of Teej, Krishna is taken as Nwaran (name ceremony). Teej's songs related to Krishna's birth, Vasudev Devaki's story and Radha Gopini are sung in Teej. Therefore, Teejparva is worshiped as fasting, festival songs are sung, Teejparva sages are worshiped. 

 Shiva and Teej
Hindus worship Shiva as an executioner. Since there is no origin without annihilation, the followers of Sanatan Dharma believe that all living beings must give up their bodies in the creation of Brahma. Although Shiva is an executioner, he is considered to be the owner of animals i.e. Pashupati. In times of calamity, Shiva is invoked by gods, demons, and humans. According to various myths, Lord Shiva is the basis of Nimukha (poor people). Studying the virtues of Shiva, it seems that our society has given protection to all those who are rejected.

 According to the different Puran, Teej and Swasthani Brat Devi Parvati seems to have taken Brat with great desire to get Jagadishwar Lord Mahadev as a Swami. Therefore, the followers of Teej Vrat strictly follow the rules of fasting and worship. 


In different districts and villages of Nepal, it is usual to celebrate, sing and dance in one's own style and manner. Nepali women have a tradition of fasting for good luck, prosperity, family happiness, peace, wishing for a good worthy husband and religious rituals and family gatherings for the full life of the husband. Aryan Hindu women of Nepal dance in Teej festival by stealing red clothes and red tika, pote. Similar to Teej Parva, Sangini Nachgan is celebrated in the eastern hills, Jitia Parva in the Terai and Gaura Parva in the western hills of our country. 

In the end, even if festivals are started by a particular place, caste or gender, those festivals, cultures cannot be confined to any particular race, language, religion or place. Festival, culture breaks the cycle of narrowness. All castes, languages are connected. From a religious point of view, Teej festival is called the festival of Hindu women, but this festival has affected not only the common women of Nepal but also the men.
  It is the tradition of the festival culture that such festivals are passed down from grandparents to parents, and from parents to their children. It seems that Nepali sisters have been keeping the importance of Teej Festival alive since time immemorial. 
  In our country, which is a common flower garden of all castes, each and every day falls the festival in Nepal. It is time for conscious citizens to move forward by modifying their culture, festivals and fasting practices while preserving various aspects of their culture as per the needs and demands of the society. Today, it is necessary to move forward in the face of the growing distortions in the society in the culture.

The story of Lord Krishna’s Birth कृष्णजन्माष्टमी

Amongst the incarnations of Lord Vishnu perhaps Lord Krishna is the most charismatic and human of all. He has his share of faults, his share of magnetism that drew followers and haters alike. His strong sense of moral compass which led to the Mahabharata war and his distortions and interference was all for the purpose of flushing out the evil and retaining the good.

 

In Duryodhana’s own words – Krishna is a “smiling rogue if there ever was one. He can eat, he can drink, he can sing, he can dance. He can make love, he can fight, he can gossip with old women, and play with little children. Who says he’s God?”

 

Shri Krishna and his Birth

While the ever devoted brother Kamsa decided to imprison his newly married sister Devaki and brother in law Vasudev after the divine Akashvani (divine announcement) stated his end would be by hands of the eight children of Devaki and Vasudev, the Lord had other plans.

By the time the seventh child was conceived, the gods decided to intervene. They reached out for Goddess Yogamaya and had her transfer the fetus from the womb of Devaki to the womb of Rohini, Vasudeva’s other wife who lived far away from the prison in a village of Gokul. The child was then delivered through Rohini. He is known as Balarama.

 महिना भाद्र अष्टमी बुध थियो * नक्षत्र त्यो रोहिणी।

जन्मेथे जगदिश्वर घोर निशमा * चारै भुजाका बनि।।

त्यो बेला ग्रह आदि उच्च स्थानमा* सारा बसेका थिए।

भूकोभार उतार्न मानिस बनि  * गोविन्द पैदा भए।।

When the eighth child was due, Kamsa got really nervous. All these days, they had been under house arrest, but now he shackled Vasudeva and put Devaki in a proper prison. The child was born on the eighth day into the dark half of the month, and it was pouring rain and thunder. A child was born and a miracle happened. The doors of the prison opened up by themselves – all the guards fell asleep – the shackles broke. Immediately, Vasudeva saw that this was divine intervention. He picked up the child and as if by intuitive guidance, he walked to the river Yamuna. Though the whole place was flooding, he found to his surprise that the ford which crossed the river was sticking out and he could clearly walk.

 

He walked across and went to the house of Nanda and his wife Yashoda. Yashodha had just delivered a girl child. She had had a difficult labor and was unconscious. Vasudeva replaced the girl child with Krishna, took the girl child, and came back to the prison. Kamsa came and saw that it was a girl. He picked up the child by her legs and wanted to crash her on the floor. As he was about to do this, this child slipped out of his hands, flew out the window, laughed at him, and said, “Your slayer is elsewhere.” Meanwhile, Krishna was placed into the community of Gokula. In spite of being the son of a chief, he grew up in an ordinary cow-herding community.

 

Lord Krishna and His Bal Leela

Shree Krishna and his Bal Leela are subject of fascination for people of all ages. Such was his divine avatar even Lord Shiva came down in the guise of a sage to get a glimpse of Lord Krishna. As a child, he had everybody wrapped around his finger.

Grand-Father's Daily Rituals

जनै पुर्णिमा - रक्षा बन्धन Janai Purnima and Rakshya Bandhan

Janai Purnima falls on Shrawan Shukla Purnima every year. It is called Rakshya Bandhan as this festival observes the bond of purity and security.  This festival is celebrated by Hindus all over the world. 

A day before Janai Purnima the persons wearing Janai should make themselves 'clean' by shaving or cutting hair and take a good bath. They undergo partial fasting, taking only one meal of foods considered to be 'clean' - no meat, no onions or garlic. Before the big event Hindus prefer to clean their body by keeping fasting. Satvic food is prescribed for all Hindu rituals and festivals. 

In the Purnima morning men usually go to rivers and ponds nearby, to take secret bath dipping himself thrice in the water. Men, then change their Janai. Break the old ones.  

Janai

Janai is a cotton string worn across the chest by a Hindu male. This thread is only given to males during a long and impressive religious ceremony called ‘Bratabandhan’. Bratabandhan is basically a formal process of accepting someone in the religion.  The Janai initiates the boy into manhood and commands them to devotedly follow the religion and the path of truth. The Janai must be worn every day of their lives after they listen to their mantra from the guru during the Bartabandha.

Janai is the triple cord made of cotton. First three regarded as a symbol of the Brahma, Bishnu, Shiva, second three; Action, Meditation and Knowledge. Someone believed that three loans that mean God loan, Forefather loan, and Sage loan.

It is a symbol of body, speech and mind and when the knots are tied the person wearing it is supposed to gain complete control over each of them.

 

 Rakshya Bandhan Doro

Rakshya means "to protect" and Bandhan is "tie" or "bond". Rakshya Bandhan is a bond or tie of protection. This thread is which is tied around the hand is called Doro.

In Raksha Bandhan day male, female, children, and kids regardless of status and caste get tied a Doro (sacred colorful thread) around their wrist. Generally, males get tied the thread around their right and the women around their left wrist. 

They believe Doro brings them good luck when one believes, that always becomes true. People keep the Doro tied in wrist till on Laxmi Puja day in Deepawali. This thread is then taken out from the wrist and tied on the tail of a cow in the cow worship day (Laxmi puja) in about October. 

Hindu believes that they have to cross a river Baitarni after death to reach heaven. The cow will help him/her to cross the river Baitarni, by allowing the dead to cling to her tail if he/she ties the doro to the tail of a cow on Laxmi Puja day. 

Rakshya Bandhan Mantra

"ये बद्धो बलि राजा दानवेन्द्रो माहावल:।

तेन त्वं  प्रतिवध्नामी  रक्षेमा चलमा चल।।"

Meaning:

“I tie on you (the devotee) the Raksha which was tied on Bali, the King of demons.
Therefore Oh Raksha! Do not ever fail to protect this devotee, do not ever fail.”

Rakhi Day

This festival is also marked by the tying of a rakhi, or holy thread, by the sister on the wrist of her brother

Kwati Purnima or Gunhi Punhi

This day is also called Kwati Punhi, where Kwati is a soup of different beans and Punhi means the full moon day. Newar people also put the sacred threads around the wrists which are to be taken off on the day of Laxmi Puja, another festival in Tihar.


Stories behind Rakshya Bandhan

Krishna and Draupadi

Another incident is from the epic Mahabharat and concerns Krishna and Draupadi, the wife of the Pandavas. She had once torn a strip of silk off her sari and tied it around Krishna's wrist to stop the bleeding from a battlefield wound. Krishna was touched by her action and declared her to be his sister, even though they were unrelated. He promised to repay the debt and then spent the next 25 years doing just that. Draupadi, inspite of being married to 5 great warriors and being a daughter of a powerful monarch, trusted and depended wholly on Krishna. Krishna repaid the debt of love during the "Cheer-Haran" (literally "clothing-robbing") of Draupadi, which occurred in the assembly of King Dhritarashtra when Pandavas lost her to the Kauravas in gambling. At that time, Krishna indefinitely extended her saree through divine intervention, so it could not be removed, to save her honor. This is how he honored his rakhi-vow towards Draupadi.

King Bali and Goddess Laxmi

According to a legend, the Demon King Bali was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu had taken up the task to guard his kingdom leaving his own home in Vaikunth. Goddess Lakshmi wished to be with her lord back in her abode. She went to Bali disguised as a woman to seek refuge until her husband came back.

During the Shravan Purnima celebrations, Lakshmi tied the sacred thread to the King. Upon being asked, she revealed who she was and why she was there. The king was touched by her goodwill for his family and her purpose and requested the Lord to accompany her. He sacrificed all he had for the Lord and his devoted wife.

Thus the festival is also called Baleva that is Bali Raja's devotion to the Lord. It is said that since then it has been a tradition to invite sisters in Shravan Purnima for the thread tying ceremony or the Raksha Bandhan.

फागु पूर्णिमा वा होली


शिशिर ऋतुुुको  समाप्ति र वसन्त ऋतुको आगमन सँगै मनाइने रमाइलो पर्व हो फागु (#होली )। #वसन्तोत्सव, #ढुरहेरी, #होरी, होली, #फाल्गु, #फागुपूर्णिमा, #मदनोत्सव #पटवास_विलासिनी आदि विभिन्न नामले परिचित रङ्गीन हर्षपरक पर्व नै फागु(#होली ) हो।


मिमासा दर्शन, लिङ्गो र वराह पुराणमा पनि फागुपूर्णिमाको उल्लेख छ। फाल्गुन शुक्ल अष्टमीको दिन चीरोत्थान गरेर ८ दिनसम्म यो पर्व मनाउने चलन काठमाडौंमा छ। तराई-मधेसका  प्राय: सम्पुर्ण समुदायको दाजुभाई दिदीबहिनीहरु हर्ष उल्लास सहित सहभागीता हुन्छन्। तराई-मधेसमा पहाडको होली भन्दा एकदिन पछि यो पर्व मनाउने परम्परा रहेको छ। यस पर्वमा हर्ष सहित रङ्गीन पानी छ्याप्ने, अबिर हावामा उडाउदाँ वातावरण नै  रोमान्चित हुन्छ, सुगन्धित चुुुुर्ण दलेर मनोरञ्जन गर्ने, रसिक गितहरु र भगवानको भजन गाउने चलन छ।

पौराणिक आख्यान, स्थानीय विश्वास, मनोरञ्जन र पर्यावरण सम्पुर्ण सँग कुनै न कुनै रुपमा फागु पर्व गाँसिएको छ। आयुर्वेदले। चन्दन, अमला, बेसार, मेहेन्दी, मह, दही, साथै विभिन्न माटोको लेपनलाई गुणकारी पदार्थको रुपमा ब्याख्या गरेको छ। फूल, पात, बोक्रा, जरा, र विभिन्न खनिजलाई विविध ढङ्गले पकाएर, सुकाएर त्यसबाट बनेका सुगन्धित रङ्गलाई उत्सव अनुसार प्रयोग गर्ने विधि आयुर्वेदले सिकाएको छ। 
हर्ष प्रकट गर्न सिन्दुरे जात्रा गर्ने परम्परा निकै प्राचीन मानिन्छ। आपत्-विपत् बाट सकुशल उम्केर फर्केपछि वा विशेष दक्षता, खुसी प्रदर्शन गरेमा वा प्रशंसनीय कार्य गरेमा गालामा सिन्दुर दलेर वा हावामा विभिन्न रङ्गहरू उडाएर हर्ष प्रकट गर्ने प्रचलन पनि छ।



राष्ट्रको पहिचानको लागि विभिन्न चाडपर्वको गरिमा अग्रणी रहन्छ जसले आन्तरिक र बाह्य पर्यटकलाई आकर्षित गर्ने साथै पर्यटनको विकासका लागि सहयोग गर्दछ। तर यसमा विकृति मौलाउन दिनु हुदैन फागु पर्वलाई अभिसाप होइन वरदानका रुपमा आ-आफ्नो घर आँगनमा स्वागत गर्ने वातावरण सिर्जना हुनुपर्दछ।

Excursion of Indradaha Kathmandu

Indradaha, Kotgao is situated at an altitude of 1600 meters, just 10 km. away from the Kalanki Chowk of Kathmandu City, IndraDaha/ Dahachowk is the best destination for observing the magnificent views of nature, and culture. It’s still under shadows despite tourism potentials. Sightseeing, jungle safari, picnic and hiking are much enjoyed activities here. The moderately easy hiking trails for two and half hours passes through the lush greenery forest as well as 30 minutes motor biking drive to reach here.  
A beautiful place of Chadragiri Municipalaity ward-1, Indradaha, Kotgao, Kathmandu, Bagamati Province. It lies between the Jamachowk (1925m) and Chandragiri (2551m) Hills, southward of here lies greenery landscape, and forest on the other side. It is not only the beautiful from natural point of view but also religious and historical aspects near Dahochok
Firstly, I want to talk the Religious importance makes Indradaha, Monastery, Temple. Indra temple was named after the pond named “Indradaha”, and it is believed that the name of village. Beside the pond there are two temples. One of the temple is in Pagoda style while the other is in Shikhar-style and is a bit smaller. Inner part of the temple contains the statue of Indra, Indrayani, Devi, Saligram, Bhairav, Suya, Ganesh and so on.
The statue of King of the Lord Indra and Indrayani together with the Erawata Hatti (elephant) is found only Indradaha and not on the other places. This fact even raises the importance of this place. However, the place includes party (INN), stone taps of historic importance, Shivalinga and Bhajangriha. On the western corner of this place lies the Basuki Nag’s Wooden carving Statue. Among the eight Nag, Basuki Nag is believed to be the son of Annata. Every year here a big celebration and many pilgrims take a bath in the Daha (pond) on the full moon day of Bhadra, the next day of Indrajatra of Kathmandu. Pilgrims come from many places for the celebration. It is commonly believed that taking bath is this pond makes clean from the sons. And open the door to haven. According to old people living in this area recite many stories related with Indra and Indradaha.

Himalayas on the Northern part of Nepal and the natural beauty of this area touch the heart of all. Right? From this place of Indradaha, Kotgao. It is possible to observe Mountains range like Gaurishankar, Gugal, Dorje-Lakpa, Lamtang, Ganesh |Himal, Manaslu, Lamjung Himal and Annapurna as well as Kathmandu Valley, Dolakha, Sindupalchok, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, and small places in between all staying from a single position. This place also has a lot of hidden importance which are yet to be discovered and explored, publicized. This place which looks like the collection of stone were the forts of King Prithivi Narayan Shah (1723–1775, Nepali: 'पृथ्वीनारायण शाह' was the last ruler of the Gorkha Kingdom and first monarch of Kingdom of Nepal.) They were built to attract Kathmandu valley at the time of Unification of Nepal. King Prithivi Narayan Shah was able to unite Nepal from this place. It was really difficult that time to unite Nepal because of its Geographical Location and only the Kathmandu Valley used to be called as Nepal.
This place is the place where the Hero Kalu Pande(कालु पाँडे was a Nepalese politician and military general who was appointed as Kaji of The Gorkha Kingdom. He was born in 1713 A.D in Gorkha. . He was the commander of the Gorkhali forces during the Expansion Campaign of Nepal. He died in the first Battle of Kirtipur in 1757 A.D.) His real name was Banshidhar Pande ( वंशीधर पाँडे). He was killed while Gorkhali Armies were fighting for the first time to conquer Kritipur which was in Lalitpur in these days. According to his wish his head was cremated here.  Beside this all, here are Kotghar and Manakamana Temple built by King Prithivi Narayan Shah. This place has many other mysteries yet historically important things besides being a standing evidence of unification of Nepal.

हिउँभ्रमण २०२० को जाडो बिदा।

हाम्रो कमर सम्म आउने हिउँले ढाकिएको खुर्पुभन्ज्याङले हामीलाई बोलाईएको थियो। उसै त मलाई adventurous activities ले छिट्टै  तान्छ। झन यो ठाउँमा पुगेपछि मन नलोभिने कुरै भएन। साच्चै लोभलाग्दो थियो, दृश्य। 

मेरा पैताला बिस्तारै बिस्तारै अघि बढे गिन्ती गरेर एक घण्टा पैदल बराबर ७०/७५ पाइलाहरू। फेरि एक मनले सोच्छु, होइन खुर्पुभन्ज्याङ काट्न सकिन्न कि के हो? हिउँको यात्रा एकदमै रमाइलो रह्यो सुरुवातका १२० मिनेट जति, यस समयको हाम्रो अनुभव' हिउँसँग खेल्न, फोटो खिच्न, हिउँमा दैड्न, लडिबुडी गर्न असाध्यै रमाइलो भन्नुपर्दा; वर्षै विदेशीएर फर्केको प्रेमीलाई स्वागत गर्न airport पुगेकी प्रेमीका जस्तै।' 
  जति उकालो लाग्दैछ गयो हिउँ जुत्ता भन्दा माथि हुँदा हुँदै घुँडा सम्म त ठिकै थियो। जब कम्मर भन्दा माथि त्यो पनि हाम्रो बिक्रम कार्की जिको!!! (यो हिउँको उचाई हाम्रो सोचाई भन्दा धेरै माथिल्लो स्तरको थियो। किनकि काठमाडौंमा हुँदा नै हिउँ परेको हामी सबै यात्रीहरू लाई थाह भैसकेको थियो र तयारी त्यसै अनुसार भएको थियो। काठमाडौंबाट जाँदै गर्दा रसुवाको गोल्जुङ भन्ने गाँउमा हामीलाई हिउँ झरेर स्वागत गरिन्। बस आफ्नो गतिमा गुडिरहेको छ गन्तव्यमा पुग्नको लागि, हामी बसको झ्यालबाट आ-आफ्नो मोबाइल र क्यामेरा निकालि भिडियो फोटोहरु कैद गर्दै छौँ। लगभग ४०/५० मिनेटको हिमपात त्यसपछिको हाम्रो आजको गन्तव्य स्थल आहा कति राम्रो सज्जेकी!! "आमाछेदिङ्मो"।)
यतिबेला सम्म हामीले लगभग ५ घण्टाको हिउँ-पैदल यात्रा सम्पन्न गरेका थियौं। आखिर यस्तै Adventure त हुन् डरलाई जित्न सिकाउने। जिन्दगीमा हिक्मत जुटाउन सघाउने,अनि डरलाई जित्दै अघि बढ्न हौसला  दिने, हिउँ कम्मर भन्दा माथि आएर टक्क अडिए।

Educational Sightseeing Tour of Master of Tourism Studies (MTS) IV Semester in Chandragiri Municipality, Wada 01, Indradaha, Kathmandu.
