Shree Pashupatinath: Apex College's Students

On Monday, June 30, 2025, I had the wonderful opportunity to guide the 7th semester BBA-TT students of Apex College on a learning visit. I would like to sincerely thank Mr. Kishor Chapagain and Mr. Nojal Koirala for making this sacred heritage walk possible, and I also appreciate the students for their active participation.

This was not my first time leading such a visit. In the past, I’ve had the honor of sharing knowledge about the sacred Pashupatinath area with different groups:

  • In 2023, Barun Sir, Mahesh Guru & I guided 75 students from NATHM’s BTTM 17th batch (1day)

  • In Mansir 2081 B.S., I shared stories and heritage knowledge with 105 students from Arunima School (3 days)

  • In Chaitra 2081 B.S., I had a session with 90 students from Manaslu School (2 days)

Each time I visit the Pashupatinath area with students, I feel deeply happy and spiritually connected. In my heart, I silently thank Lord Pashupatinath for giving me such opportunities to serve and share.

What I teach is not just from books, but from the knowledge passed down by my gurus, mentors, and elders. I take pride in showing the sacred and artistic heritage of Pashupatinath, explaining their meanings and stories behind them.

During each visit, I cover the following topics:

  • The origin story of Pashupatinath

  • The meaning of the name “Pashupati” and Shiva

  • Important stone and bronze sculptures inside the temple (like the Shivlinga and other sacred deities)

  • 790 B.S Stone inscriptions -34 Slok Jayadev-II , Harihar and Basudvkamalaja icons

  • I also share the myths and legends I have read or heard over the years

Explaining these stories and showing these sacred sites always brings me joy.

I also remember and my dear friends Mahesh Bhatt and Varun Khatriwada every time I’m at Pashupatinath. Their support and connection to this place are unforgettable.

Our Journey on June 30, 2025

This time, we began our exploration at 9:00 AM, starting from the Image of Brahma at Gaushala. We followed the learning path through the temple complex, and around 12:50 PM, we concluded at the Uma-Maheshwor Icon of Rajarajeshwari.

After the tour, Kishor sir and I returned to the college, where we shared a warm cup of coffee with Nojal Sir and talked about the day. We left around 2:00 PM, with full hearts and satisfied minds.

What I Cover in My Pashupatinath Heritage Walks

In Part 1, I focus on the inner temple premise area:

  • Meaning and stories of Pashupati (Pashu + Pati)

  • Shiva Linga and symbolic images inside the temple premises

  • Mythological tales and local beliefs

  • Major Festivals of Pashupatinath

In Part 2, I take students to the Ghat (cremation area) side:

  • Aryaghat, Birupaksha Icon, Tilopa Cave, Suryaghat

  • Death rituals and philosophy

  • The sacred Bagmati River

  • How the space is connected with both life and death

Usually, these heritage walks take 3 to 4 hours, and each moment is meaningful.

Sightseeing at Pashupatinath is more than just teaching - it's a spiritual and cultural exchange. I feel grateful every time I can pass on what I’ve learned from my teachers to the younger generation.
