Tourism Educators Meet 2025

A New Beginning for Tourism Education in Nepal

On 2082/4/31 (August 16, 2025), coinciding with Shreekrishna Janmashtami, my team and I successfully organized the Tourism Educators Meet 2025. The idea for this event was born about one and a half months ago during a casual tea talk with Kishore Dai and Kedar Ji (It's not my idea) What started as a simple conversation “Let’s do Something”  gradually turned into action.

We decided to host the first meet as a pilot project at KATH College, and from that moment, our journey began. After weeks of planning, preparation, and teamwork, we finally made it happen at Simal Hotel, Thamel.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all the tourism educators from +2 (11/12 classes) and Bachelor-level programs who participated in this event. A special thanks goes to Mr. Sudhir Adhikari, Principal of KATH College, for his continuous support, and to Vinaya Shakya Sir for being our honorable witness. 🙏 Interestingly, most of us who came together for this meet are graduates from the same universities and colleges, which made the event even more special.

Key Highlights & Outcomes of the Meet

  1. Participation:
A total of 29 tourism educators attended, with one educator joining us online from Butwal.

  2. Tourism Education Challenges:

    • Tourism is often treated as a marks-oriented subject, where students can pass without proper learning.

    • Some colleges enroll students mainly for practical marks, without focusing on genuine knowledge.

  3. Need for a Strong Network:
We realized the urgent need for a dedicated tourism educators' network to bring all teachers together and work collectively.

  4. Training & Skill Development:
Tourism educators need training on new trends and technologies — especially digital media, AI, and modern teaching tools — to keep up with changing times.

  5. Curriculum Reform:
The university and NEB syllabuses are outdated and need revision to match current and future industry demands.

  6. Research Collaboration:
There is a lack of research publications by tourism educators. We discussed forming a research network to encourage collaborative academic work.

  7. Common Platform for Discussion:
We need a shared platform where tourism educators can collaborate, coordinate, and exchange ideas to improve tourism education.

  8. Positive Impact on Students:
As educators, we must inspire students to believe that studying tourism can shape their careers and open meaningful opportunities.
